I've found the food to be very hit or miss. The lunch time grilled chicken pita sandwiches and hummus are delicious. Dinners have been less consistent in my experience. We've been here about 4 times for lunch and 3 for dinner. Maybe I've watched too much Restaurant Impossible but it struck me that their regular dinner menu is very large, and their "specials" page must have 20+offerings, all kinds of fish, lobster, grouper, crab cakes, etc. The feeling I had was that there were SO many offerings that I doubted they could all be fresh. Sometimes too much variety isn't a good thing. I'd rather see a few dishes which truly were special for that particular night. The owners are very nice and cordial and truly aim to please. I hope they decide to focus on what they do really well!

OMG!!! So horrible, went there tonight for valentines day. The lump crabmeat app was basically a cold soggy spinach roll. I got the seafood trio and it came our freezing cold. I never send food back so I ate rubbery scallops, tiny shrimp and didn't touch the crab cake that was mostly cold spinach. The service was actually decent, the food was HORRIBLE! This place need a Restaurant makeover ASAP!

I had dinner here with my sisters. We started out with the Mediterranean combo with humus, baba ghanoush, grilled mushrooms and peppers and feta. It was served with flat bread. It was wonderful, I could have eaten the whole thing myself as my dinner. one of my sisters had the seafood trio, she had it before and loved it and was happy with it again. another sister really liked her vodka penne. other sister and I both had the filet mignon, she said hers was slightly over done but still very good. mine was perfect,it came with mashed potatoes and a wonderful sauce topped with a perfectly cooked shrimp. Nice touch! They brought us a plate of grilled vegetables with our dinner. and also complementary ceaser salads. we all had a great time thanks to the friendly staff. next time I will come here with my hubby.

I had the soft shell crab with a white lemony sauce and spinach. The sauce was a tiny bit tart for my taste but the crab was fresh and the spinach perfectly tender. The shrimp and lobster ravioli in a blush sauce was my favorite item; the pasta is overstuffed and tender and the sauce creamy with a tiny hint of wine. It's a good app if shared and enough to feed one. Dessert was just okay. My tiramisu was nothing amazing but still good. Service was efficient and friendly. Still a solid place for dinner.

Worst meal I've ever had. I ordered chicken parm because I was nervous to order something more involved. I thought there was no way to mess up chicken parm. Boy was I wrong! The "chicken" (if you can call it that) looked like a piece of mystery meat that had been frozen for two years. I took one bite and was totally disgusted. I went with a group and all members were dissatisfied with the food and service. I will never eat here again.

I had dinner at this BYOB last night with friends. I thought the food was just fine. I had the Linguine with mussels and clams. The pasta was good and the seafood was also very good. Starter salad crisp and tasty. I'm not sure why all the negative reviews. The service was also decent and the people very friendly. My 3 dinner mates were also satisfied.

2.75 stars. Food was tasty but standard fare. Wasn't a huge fan, but if you're in the mood for standard unadventurous italian food, this is your place.

Horrible, lousy bread, service, salad wasn't fresh and entrees tasteless. Had to add our own flavoring with whatever was on table. Wish we had gone to Villaggio's instead. Won't go back.

We recently had a special event at Mirna's Café in Blue Bell. A friend recommended them so we spoke to them about menu selections and prices. They were helpful, affordable and accommodating so we decided to proceed. Not only was the food delicious but the portions were huge. Our guests couldn't stop talking about the quality of the food. The room was bright and spacious and the service was friendly and quick. Outstanding doesn't go far enough in describing our experience at Mirna's Café. We will be returning for dinner as will our guests.

I always used to eat at this restaurant when I was growing up, but hadn't been back in a while. I was surprised to see some of the reviews, because I always thought this was a pretty decent restaurant. I had lunch here with my mom yesterday and we both really enjoyed our meals! My mom got a great salad and I had the penne pasta with chicken--very flavorful. I can't wait to have my leftovers (I was surprised how big the portion was for lunch). Would definitely recommend trying this place.

The food & service was exceptional making this a memorable day for my daughter's wedding shower. The owners and waiters worked extremely hard to make sure everything was in order. Everyone aimed to please and had a smile on their face. I highly recommended Mirna's for a wedding shower or any other important event. Truly an awesome place.

Love this place...BYOB. Waitstaff is perfect. Not on top of you but also does not neglect you. Food is Mediterranean, lots of fresh ingredients. Big portions. My favorites: grilled calamari (appetizer) Red Snapper (entree)...really worth checking out.

Wow, I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant I didn't like! I think it'll be easiest to read if I just list my complaints. - The restaurant was silent -- like an empty church. My family and I spoke in whispers because of this. There was no music or anything. Veeery uncomfortable. - We were the only people in the whole place for our entire meal. I suppose other people were wise enough not to eat here. - The waiting staff was unfriendly and unwelcoming. No smiles, no introductions, nothing. Also, they never came around during the meal to check up on us. In fact, everyone was in "the back" 95% of the time. Had to wait several minutes just for an employee to come out to ask for the check. - The bread they bring out is stale and cold. I mean, when I see a bread basket at restaurant, I expect fresh and warm bread. It's hard to mess that one up. - The food was unimpressive. The lettuce in my salad was brown on the edges and had a chemical taste to it. The rest of my party were also disappointed with their meals. Especially the people who ate the chicken parm (they said the meat was very rubbery). I highly suggest eating somewhere else. I do not understand the positive reviews, I'm surprised they are still in business.

Went here for dinner and had the fried calamari appetizer and the fettuccine seafood special for my entree. The calamari was great, not rubbery or greasy. The pasta was good too. The only con was that the sauce was a little bland (it would have been 5 stars!) I would definitely go back.

I was wholly unimpressed by this place. I ordered the pasta with shrimp, crab, and mussels. It was relatively flavorless. If the pasta was fresh, as they claim... They are not skilled at making fresh pasta. The rest of my party echoed similar reviews of their dishes. Little flavor and just not good. Mainly, the service was very poor. Took 15min for anyone to come and get drink orders. Another 10 for dinner orders. The waiters and staff were not friendly. They were mostly silent and seemed as though they did not want to bother with us. It was reasonably priced, but the food was below average and service left a lot to be desired. The restaurant was actually fairly crowded which I found surprising - Perhaps I missed something but I can guarantee We will not be returning.

Blue Bell location. Everything was delicious; overall, great experience. Ordered Mirna's Soup followed by Seafood Caesar Salad - soup was hot, fresh, and full of great flavor. Salad and seafood was fresh - decent size portion salad. Wife got Chicken Cacciatore - white wine sauce and chicken was hot and delicious; grilled vege's were packed with flavor. Followed with lava cake dessert - one of the best I've tasted - rich and decedent. Service is average - not bc the staff is lazy - in fact, they work extremely efficiently and hard; very polite - rather, the service was average bc they are so busy and there is just not enough staff. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing...looking forward to going back next weekend!

Not sure why Mirna's isn't rated higher... great food and good service at reasonable prices. I went with a coworker for lunch and we had a chance to sample a few apps, dive into some great specials, and still had time to relax over an espresso once we were done. It is a BYOB which no doubt plays in its favor for dinner. Regarding the comments on the parking lot, 1) I didn't have an issue (and we walked over to PJs when we were done) and 2) how is that Mirna's fault if you did have issues?

    (4)
  • Frank G.

I don't understand the negative reviews. Some must be from the local competition....others must be from people that would not know the difference between great meal and a rotten baloney sandwich. Mirna's is without a doubt one of the best in Montco. It is our favorite. The seasoning is unique. The portions and quality are there. Should you go to Mirna's....please let them know if something is not to your liking...they try hard to accommodate. Mirna's is not a S. Phila Italian restaurant...don't expect it to be. They have their own style...and it is really good. Try them...do not let the negative reviews hold you back. They are very inaccurate. Focus on the positive reviews. They tell the story. We went one time when they opened...and once a week until the present. BYOB and enjoy. Frank & Marsha

Enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Mirna's Cafe recently. Despite the lunch crowd, we were seated immediately. Took a gander at their menu, and couldn't resist the large pasta section. Ordered the Penne Rustica ($9; they accept credit cards), a tasty bed of penne with artichokes (quite a few), garlic, bits of anchovy, tomatoes, black olives, and spices. The sauce they used was sweet, and the olives too. Took no prisoners. Finished the whole thing. Service was good: waiters kept our waters full, took our orders right away, cleared the table without issue, and brought out the check when needed. Glad Mirna's is around. Check them out!

My ILs love this place so we tried it. First visit, DH ordered a seafood topped salad. He received old looking lettuce with rust spots on it, a few steamed shrimp, and a random french fry with catsup in his salad. It literally looked like floor sweepings. Second visit, I ordered a turkey sandwich. While the turkey was OK, there was plenty of mixed greens on the roll. Which they apparently didn't dry after washing them. As I bit into the sandwich, water poured onto my plate. Potato salad side was a garlic fest. Garlic like your skin is gonna smell like garlic for days if you eat it. Third visit, I got wise and ordered an omelette. OK, finally something they didn't screw up. I'll mention now that visits 2 and 3 were paid for by the inlaws. They wouldn't have made it past visit 1 with me footing the bill. On top of the haphazard food, there's advertising everywhere in this place, including on the straws. Really, I need to read MercedesBenz on the straws? I can see that in a diner, but even then it puts me off. This place has nothing to invite me back.

Hesitated to go after reading some of the reviews here but decided to go for it. Took my god-daughter (niece) and her new fiancé and my sister and her husband out to celebrate the engagement. Made a reservation for 7:30 and we were about 5-10 mins late, but ended up waiting another 20-30 mins or so to be seated...mind you, it's a tiny little place with no where to wait! Felt like we were in the way. Ok, we were patient and don't make a fuss. It was worth it! Food was great! Service at first felt a little like we were on their nerves (am I a little paranoid?!) but got better as night wore on and it ended up being an all around nice experience!

I was at Mirna's for my brothers birthday. We got there around 7pm and there were only a few tables full. When I looked at the menu and saw advertisements for local business I figured this place wasn't going to be good. This is a Italian restaurant not a diner. The menu was small and the specials paper was huge. I'm not sure what the reason for this was. I ordered the Tuna steak rare with a corn and pepper salsa. My entree came with a salad and we split the Calamari for an appetizer. My salad was average at best. The calamari was the only thing that I thought was worth eating. It was cooked to a nice golden brown. When my meal came out just by the way it was plated I had an idea that it wasn't going to be enjoyable. The Tuna steak was a decent size and it was covered in corn, peppers & onions. The peppers would have been good on an Italian hoagie because they had been soaking in red wine vinegar. It was cooked rare but was so chewy i can only guess it was frozen. I had asked the waiter and he recommended it. I usually will give a restaurant a 2nd chance. This place is the exception. I will not go here again. With the amount of great places in the area i'm surprised this place is still open.

I've been eating here for the past 10 years, about once a month. My parents were regulars when we lived in the area and the manager and staff definitely showed their appreciation. The ambiance is great. We reserved the one part of the restaurant for my sister's rehearsal dinner last year. Food was spectacular. I've never had a bad meal from here; it's always hot, and cooked to the exact specification you order. They are heavy handed on the garlic and seasonings (you will find slices of cloves in a pasta dish), but that's one of the things I love about it. The service is fast and simple. They don't engage in a lot of chit chat and are pretty straight forward in running the operation of the FOH. My favorites are any pasta dish, the salmon, the grilled calamari is amazing, Mirna's soup, and the seafood caesar salad. Make sure you call ahead on a weekend night. We've walked in many times in the past, but this past weekend we called ahead and still had to wait 15min. Very good place- I've brought many friends here over the years.

A nice place to have a relaxing lunch on the patio, if the weather cooperates. Stick with the Greek specialties and you'll be happy. I had the cold plate of homemade falafel, humus, kafta and stuffed grape leaves with spring mix, fresh tomatoes, onion, cucumber and a side of tahini sauce. Served with fresh pita wedges and lemon slices, it hit the spot on a warm spring afternoon. Service was European-style. Not too friendly, but professional and efficient.

I am rating this place highly because of a special event that I held there. I was recently married at Normandy Farm, so we held our rehearsal dinner at Mirna's (which is conveniently located just down the road). The cost was completely reasonable and the food was great. We had about 35 people and they set the semi-private seating area to accommodate our group. We had a selection of three apps, salad, a choice of five entrees (that we chose during our meeting with the manager prior to our event), and carrot cake for dessert (I have no idea where they got it or if they made it themselves, but honestly, the best carrot cake ever). We brought our own wine (which the servers kept flowing) and everyone had a great time! Also want to say that the service there is always great and that we enjoy going there from time to time for a night out. Definitely worth checking out. The outdoor seating in the summer is nice, too (while it's just on the sidewalk next to the restaurant and parking lot, al fresco dining is hard to come by in the area).

I absolutelyyy LOVE Mirna's cafe. The service and food are ALWAYYS amazing!! I was just there tonight and loved every minute! My family and I typically go at least once a month. They even make my dad his own special meal of calamari and spaghetti. All you have to do is ask!!! We come so often that, to show their appreciation, we recieve salads and antipasto on the house!!

Arrived at Mirnas Cafe around 6pm this past Saturday. Immediately seated by the manager. My boyfriend and I ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer and it was delicious. Better than Capital Grille. The manager brought us delicious yet simple salads on the house. I ordered the seafood jambalaya sans the clams. It was spicy and delicious. It had mussels, fresh crab meat, and shrimp on top of the best risotto I've ever had. My boyfriend had the flounder with mixed vegetables. He said it was incredible. The lemon and tomato flavored sauce was perfectly complimentary with the fish. Service was great. We cant wait to return soon!

This place has some of the most relaxing atmosphere and menu around. If you feel like having good soup and a burger or a sandwich, I strongly recommend it. My lunch experience there is always very good, dinner was so-so.

UH ohhh....New Years even dinner here was horrible. It pains me to write this review because I wanted to like it! We have been here in the past for an early New Years dinner and enjoyed it so much that we did the same for 2012! BUT...big mistake! Again this year 7pm reservations...place looked very nice & cozy ...nice holiday decorations & atmosphere...our friends liked it right off the bat! I especially like that is BYOB! Service was fine & Manager visable ...And that is where the good stuff ends. Food was just not good and it was over priced!. It was a "special New Years eve menu"...we expected that. Everything on the special menu was $28 and up. Deciding between a few choices, the waiter steered me to the Grouper fish. The others ordered the crabcakes. Unfortunately, the grouper fish was way over seasoned...ruined the fish. The crabcakes were more like croquettes. Heavily breaded, dried out & too much filling. Such a shame since they have my vote for the worst crabcakes in Philly! Supermarket crabcakes are much better! The dishes all came with big potatoes which were dry and tasteless. A family style vegetable platter was served...it was very greasy. Dinner salads were not included. They were an additional $8. In the past every table was filled and a line waiting for the second seating, however this year there were many empty tables and no one waiting for the next seating. Such a shame because we too will choose a different place for 2013.

This place is an excellent backup backup BYOB spot. Neither trendy nor authentic, it's more like trying to be designed but not quite making it. Food is similar: very tasty, HUGE portions, lacks both soul and cutting-edge flavor. I thought the service was acceptable and fairly quick. Extra notes: Big semi-professional mural on the wall depicting Mediterranean paradise. Really high ceiling and nice indirect lighting with slowly spinning fans. Light brown on dark brown with dark brown accents. Unstylish old-school plastic-encased, $18-entree Italian restaurant menu coupled with stylish, poorly spelled $28 daily special menu. NOT a cafe.

Typical Italian, suburban restaurant. Cute and nice decor. Didn't love it, but it was cute. My chicken parm, the cheese and sauce were nice, but chicken was tough and did not cut easily. Not the best place ever.

I was sooo looking forward to Mirna's (as I had heard so many wonderful things, seen good reviews, etc.) and boy was I let down. What a disappointment it was. I met my girlfriend there for lunch and she had been there for dinner several times and said that the food had been good every time. I think she was actually more disappointed than I was. Go ahead READ ON at your own peril. We knew something was seriously amiss when we asked for freshly brewed ice tea and the waiter informed us that they didn't have any lemon, just lime. I ask you, good restaurant patrons, what Mediterranean restaurant worth its weight in DEAD SEA SALT doesn't have lemon? I tell you it's a crime, an out and out crime! I ordered a seafood caesar salad, very reasonably priced I thought at $13 for a "seafood" caesar. I must admit the salad was tasty, with no lingering taste of anchovy (which I hate), but it was lacking in the seafood department, Ahh, thus the price $13, I knew there was a catch. The real problem was my friends meal. She ordered a chicken parm sandwich and French Onion soup and her soup which she requested to be extra cheesy (mind you she was not asking for extra cheese, just for it to be extra cheesy, there's a difference, Oh be quiet, LOL) was very under-done, the cheese was white with very little browning on top and this was after we waited at least 25 minutes for it to come out. And it's not as if the restaurant was crowded, matter of fact we were practically the only patrons left at the time. The soup was as bland as could be, she seasoned it with lots of salt and pepper and the cheese just kept flowing like a blob of nothingness into her mouth and down her throat practically choking her with it's thickness. This was embarassing Non-Date consuming soup. Comprendez-Vous? We are talking could not break the strand, you've got cheese hanging out of your mouth and sticking to your chin soup; the kind of soup that makes having a napkin at your immediate disposal of the utmost importance. Okay enough about the soup. After what seemed like forever the chicken parm sandwich was brought out and I thought maybe this would be the saving grace of the meal. Well it was not to be folks. The chicken was breaded and again looked undercooked or should I say under-fried. It actually looked as if the breading was an afterthought, that perhaps the chicken was cooked and the breading was applied afterwards. I've never seen breading so light before, no browning whatsoever. What is it with this place, I thought. This had to be the worst chicken parmesan sandwich ever! It was thick and tasteless and bland, positively awful!! And to top it off the SCARY looking (long haired, biker with tatoos and piercings-- not that there's anything wrong with that) waiter had the nerve to charge her $1.50 extra for the so-called extra cheese without informing her from the beginning, NOT COOL. All in all, we may give Mirna's another shot in the future, but it won't be for quite awhile.

This place was hyped too much to me by local Blue Bellians. The portions are generous, and the service is good (not too friendly, but good). The decor is nice and simple. The food is nothing special and only slightly above average. I will go back and try more items off the menu to give a better assessment down the road. For now they are average.

For what appears to be a nice restaurant in terms of curb appeal, I continue to be quite disappointed with Mirna's Cafe. Since location is ideal to where I live I've tried this place three times over the past 3 years hoping the food and experience have improved. No such luck. There is now however a much better option. Back in 2010, a "fine-dining" establishment within the same strip mall that caters to special events or just a nice yummy night out called Radice opened it's doors to the public. Blue Bell could use more restaurants like this! But going back to Mirna's Cafe, the meals here are mediocre at best but the portions are generous. But what's the point of having generous portions if the food isn't very good and your paying for a fine dining experience? Who wants to pay "quality" restaurant prices for pizzeria style food? If I wanted a pizzeria style chicken parm or spaghetti meal I would go to Carmine's Pizza or Palermo's Pizza around the corner and pay much less for the same. The service is also quite disappointing. Service is an essential component to a pleasant experience no matter where you dine, and that includes a McDonald's drive thru. These guys at Mirna's Cafe just don't get it! It appears by enticing the locals with coupons and flooding their menus with neighborhood advertisements they hope to bring in enough revenue to pay for their overhead month to month. I would much prefer a quality restaurant take it's place.

Mirnas is decent most of the time - we live nearby and when we don't feel like cooking after work, we may go here. Pasta is ok, Mediterranean dishes best, chicken sometimes good, sometimes not. Servers are efficient, they never ask if you want something to drink so odd.

Love this place...BYOB. Waitstaff is perfect. Not on top of you but also does not neglect you. Food is Mediterranean, lots of fresh ingredients. Big portions. My favorites: grilled calamari (appetizer) Red Snapper (entree)...really worth checking out.

2.75 stars. Food was tasty but standard fare. Wasn't a huge fan, but if you're in the mood for standard unadventurous italian food, this is your place.

Mirnas is decent most of the time - we live nearby and when we don't feel like cooking after work, we may go here. Pasta is ok, Mediterranean dishes best, chicken sometimes good, sometimes not. Servers are efficient, they never ask if you want something to drink so odd.

Horrible, lousy bread, service, salad wasn't fresh and entrees tasteless. Had to add our own flavoring with whatever was on table. Wish we had gone to Villaggio's instead. Won't go back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
